I have been pretty down lately. Winter has been cold and dark and has brought with it illness and lethargy. Stress levels have been high and children attention-seeking. It feels like 'everyone wants a piece of me' and there are few pieces left to give.
We have spent a lot of time quarantined due to sickness. We have had few nights of uninterrupted sleep.
I have felt the weight of responsibility heavily on my shoulders for much of the time.
On Saturday afternoon. Doo Dah was merrily jumping on our bed. His father was calling out to him to stop it when he heard an almighty thump. He raced into our bedroom to discover Doo Dah crumpled at the edge of the bed, head smashed through the glass window pane. Shards of glass surrounding him.
He reacted with a frightened bellow as he dragged Doo Dah away from the piles of glass. To his surprise, the Geege discovered that Doo Dah was practically unscathed. A tiny graze next to a large bump on the head. A couple of superficial cuts to his back. No bleeding. No catastrophe. Just shaken up a little.
I returned from an outing with Nugget as the Geege was cleaning up the glass in the bedroom. There was a sombre tone to the house as I walked in. Doo Dah was unusually quiet. The Geege was visibly shocked as he explained the story and patched up the large hole in our bedroom. "It could have ended so badly" he kept saying. The Minx and Dew Drop kept repeating that no-one can jump on the bed again.
A near miss.
I was so relieved. Doo Dah put his head through a glass window and did not end up in hospital!
But then I felt the wallow kick in. This was just another thing. One more thing to fix. Another thing to organise. Another ball to juggle in an already overburdened system.
But over the last couple of days I have come to realise that I should be thanking my lucky stars. Get over yourself MultipleMum. This is a sign that things are on the up.
I won't go so far as to thank Doo Dah for this revelation but I will turn my back on the miserable thoughts that have been getting the better of me the last couple of months. If Doo Dah can survive this with a smile on his dial, the least I can do is rummage up a bit of positive thinking. Right?
Can you believe how lucky we are?

wow, that is a lucky lucky...well break?
So glad all is ok, cruising through windows is not something you want the kids to be doing too often.
'I lucky,' said a wise little boy one day. And by god, he was RIGHT! x
Oh my...unscathed. the relief.
I am sorry you have been feeling so low.
Xx
Ah sweetie, I'm hearing you. And I'm sorry you've been feeling so blue. You should hear my husband on this topic - his favourite saying is, "Aren't we so lucky *insert any catastrophe you can think of*" Pretty much everything happened to us last year - home invasion, heart attack, cancer, septacemia, redundancy....
He's the optimist. I'm in training. Sending you big happy hugs xxxxx
I've had similar feelings lately. It's all in your attitude, and some days I spend the whole day trying to buck myself up.
So glad Doo Dah is safe. No more cheeky monkeys jumping on the bed.
Phew. Glad all is ok.
As a child I ran through a glass door mid performance to cliff richards wired for sound. Glad Doo Dah is ok.
I am finding having upbeat music on at the moment is helping - might go see if I can find a bit of cliffy to remind myself how lucky I am!
Yep, I sure can. Being a parent for 18 years we have had several scary moments, sometimes I scare myself laying awake at night thinking of all the possibilities. Then as my pragmatic husband says, "it didn't happen (the worst that is), so focus on the positive." ah okay.
Hugs to you, such a shock. oh and I'm assuming this is an old window? You will find the new windows much tougher and have a different (safer) way of breaking.
I had three sibs put heads through windows when we were kids, much tougher glass now. the boys put a rock through the window mowing recently and it broke differently.
It's good to have things put in perspective every now and then but that's a pretty dramatic and traumatic way to have it done!
So glad he's ok.
I know what you mean about the weather and everything being cold and dark - Im so over it. Im over chest infections and barking coughs and kids being up all night and it being too cold and miserable to do anything outside!
On the plus side we are on the countdown to spring! I guess there is always a plus side - your whole post is a wonderful testament to that.
Window accidents can be nasty.... a couple of years ago my oldest boy accidentally pushed an old TV we had in our junk room that was up against the window - it crashed through the window and fell outside and landed on our little puppy and killed it!
Thankyou for sharing this lesson with us. Every night I have to tell my Master off for jumping on the bed. Now I can give him another reason.
Hope you all feel better soon.
That *was* a close call.
Nothing like a bit of perspective, hey?
Glad all is ok and on the up! x
My goodness that is frightening. Doo Dah had a little guardian angel looking out for him on that one. It's amazing how many near misses we have in life, I don't dwell on this fact, but I'm always aware of it. I think having children makes us more conscious of it than ever.
Glad you can see a little light at the end of that tunnel xo
So happy your little one is alright. Keep up the positive thinking - it can only lead to positive results! ;)
So glad your little man is ok - boys really do know how to jump start the hearts of their parents, don't they?
x
Thank goodness he's ok!! It's important to take the lessons from these near misses and view them posatively, otherwise we would all go mad!
I gasped out loud when I read that. So glad he is ok! Hope things improve soon - Winter, and all it brings, can be quite depressing at times. Spring is almost here, can't wait for the warmer weather to stay.
PS - love the pic of your little muses, very cute.
Scary... but glad everything is OK. x
Shit!
How very lucky indeed. And how scary not only for Doo Dah but for you and the Geege too! These things happen so quickly and sometimes something they've done a thousand times.
I am so so glad that Doo Dah is ok.
Oh man. That's a serious one. Luckily, not in every respect.
Here's to Spring acoming and clearing out some of this negativity many of us are tapping into.
:-)
Lucky boy indeed! Certainly could have been far worse so I hope you do take it as a sign of things being on the up and up xx
Oh!!! Sooo, very lucky MM.
OMG! Freaky stuff. I can't believe he isn't more hurt. Thank GOD!!!!
That must be why the doctor says, no more jumping on the bed!!
xx
